Snorkeling and Free Diving

Course 100: Skin Diver

Skin diving has always been considered the first step in dive training. The skills and confidence gained in this course will be important in all future diving activities.

The course consists of six water sessions where skin diving skills are learned and refined. At least three of these water sessions will be fun trips to new dive locations. Upon successful completion of Diving 100, the Sea Camper will receive a Skin Diver Card, certificate and a patch from NAUI (National Association of Underwater Instructors).

Prerequisite: Comfortable swimmer. No age limitations.

2 Class Periods

Course 101: Advanced Skin Diver

This course is designed for the more experienced skin diver. Free-diving techniques and equipment will be introduced to take full advantage of the freedom skin diving can allow.

Learn more about breath-hold diving as well as the ocean environment. Upon successful completion of Diving 101, the Sea Camper will receive an Advanced Skin Diver certificate and a patch.

Prerequisite: Must have taken Course 100. No age limitations.

2 Class Periods

Course 111A: Skin Diving Photography

How many times have you gone into the water and wished you could take home more than a memory? Now you can! Take home pictures of that cool shell, those fish, or your new friend swimming underwater.

In this skin diving course, you will use digital cameras in underwater housings and take home a CD of your favorite shots! You will also enter your pictures in Sea Camp's annual photo contest. Winners' shots will be shown on the final night slideshow.

Prerequisite: Skin diving experience. (Diving 100 may be taken concurrently).

2 Class Periods

Course 111B: Advanced Skin Diving Photography

This class furthers the diver's photo skills they learned in 111A. Campers will get to use macro and wide angle lenses on digital cameras and get taken to different dive spots by boat and by car to explore the many different ecosystems of the island.

You will have the chance to enter the photo contest held on the final night of camp and produce a CD to take home.

Prerequisite: Must have taken 111A.

2 Class Periods

Course 115: Skin Diving Videography

In this class you will learn how to use and compose shots using digital video cameras in underwater housings to capture video of the various ocean environments.

After getting all your shots you will use iMovie video editing software to create a short video compilation of their work. Campers taking this class are encouraged to bring their favorite music to add to their film. They will be able to take this video home in DVD format.

Prerequisite: Must be 15 or older and have taken Skin Diving Photography (course 111A or 111B).

2 Class Periods
